CLS Racial & Social Equity (RSE) Initiative Launches first RSE Career Connections Summit

California Life Sciences (CLS), in partnership with Slone Partners ENVISION Program, held its first virtual Racial & Social Equity Career Connections Summit on August 3, 2021, designed to support BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and other People of Color) students’ career navigation with support from industry professionals and mentors. In addition to learning about an expanded range of science-related careers, the quarterly virtual summits are intended to provide students with practical career navigation tools and connections to help them launch successful science careers.

The first Summit – and a pre-summit Resume Writing workshop led by Kelly Services – brought 30 high school-to-graduate students together in the three-part Summit consisting of: a STEM Career Panel, aimed at exposing students to a broad range of life science careers; a Career Tools workshop on How to Make Your STEM Resume Pop, and a Career Connections networking breakout with students and industry professionals aimed at expanding students’ professional networks. Candace Nortey, Executive Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Slone Partners, emceed the Summit and invited both students and industry volunteers to continue their career connections and exploration formally as ENVISION mentees and mentors.

The second Career Summit, scheduled for October 20, from 4:00 – 5:30pm PT, will focus on Building Your Brand to Support Your STEM Career, led by Yanira Guzmán, Founder of The Career Gem. CLS will partner with academic and community programs to bring BIPOC students to the event to facilitate connections with its vast network of industry professionals who are committed to supporting historically excluded students in their career journey.  For more information, or to register for the Summit, click here.
