Celebrate Earth Week in Coyote Valley! This April, join us for a week of nature activities and events to celebrate the Earth and our role in protecting the natural environment. Sign up for one - or several - of our docent-led and self-guided programs located across Coyote Valley, one of our region’s most important and amazing landscapes. Registration is required for all events.

Have you ever wondered how to play a part in nature conservation? You can help keep track of the plants and animals in your neighborhood and provide scientists and nature advocates with valuable information! Join us for a lunchtime Bioblitz for Beginners at Spreckles Hill in South San Jose to learn the ropes of citizen science. Expert docents will guide and teach you to use the iNaturalist app on your smartphone to record all the living things you find around this important habitat. Trees, butterflies, dragonflies, beetles, birds, and squirrels - we love them all! Now let's go find them!

Bring your own binoculars and water to drink – nature will provide the rest!

Nature is the inspiration for many forms of art, like poetry. Come learn how to capture the experiences you have in nature through this elegant form of poetry known as “haiku.” Meet a life-long haiku enthusiast and member of the Haiku Society of San Francisco and be guided through creating haikus of your own.

Whether you choose to journal, birdwatch, or simply breathe in the fresh air, the preserve will be open during these evening hours for all to enjoy.

Come celebrate Mother Nature and all you can do to help planet Earth! Meet Open Space Authority General Manager, Andrea Mackenzie and special guests from the local conservation community. Take a walk up to the top of Spreckles Hill for breathtaking views of Coyote Valley, followed by arts and crafts, raw honey sampling from the Happy Hollow Park & Zoo apiary, activities to learn about water, and the opportunity to meet a native plant garden enthusiast. Activities begin at 10:00 a.m. Please arrive at 9:45 a.m. to allow time to park and check-in.
